Effective 15 January 2025, contractors and designers must hold mandatory liability insurance to continue their professional activities. Premium calculations are based on the previous year’s net turnover from relevant activities. Public investments are not subject to this legislation and are therefore exempt from this calculation.
Insurance compliance is overseen by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for contractors, and by the Hungarian Chambers of Engineers and Architects for designers. Companies engaging in both activities must secure coverage for both fields.
Failure to comply may result in sanctions, such as activity bans or removal from professional registers. Affected businesses should review their current policies to ensure they meet the new legal requirements.
