Rolf, you have already been part of the team when the company was founded in 2005. How have you experienced the early days of the network?
Ah, the early days! We were like a group of pioneers with big ideas and modest resources — fueled by coffee and ambition. There was a real “startup” energy, a lot of long hours, and a strong belief that we were building something truly unique. Looking back, it was equal parts challenging and exhilarating.
How has your collaboration with Wolfgang contributed to UnisonSteadfast’s success?
Wolfgang and I have always had complementary strengths — he’s the visionary, I’m the detail guy. Our collaboration worked because we shared the same core values: independence, integrity, and internationalism. We didn’t always agree, but we always respected each other, which I think is the secret sauce.
What have been the biggest challenges in aligning visions, and how have you managed differences?
Vision is like art — everyone improvises a little. The key has been open dialogue and a good dose of humor. When differences arose, we’d go back to our core mission. That always helped us realign and move forward with purpose.
What strengths does the next generation bring to UnisonSteadfast?
Fresh perspectives, digital fluency, and a global mindset that’s truly second nature. They bring bold ideas and an energy that keeps us all on our toes — in the best way possible!
How do you see the company’s culture and values evolving under new leadership?
I see a deep respect for our roots paired with an eagerness to innovate. The culture will grow more inclusive and tech-savvy, but our values — trust, independence, and partnership — will remain firmly at the core.
What excites you most about the future direction of the company?
The opportunity to tap into new markets, harness technology in smarter ways, and continue building a global community that supports independent brokers. Honestly, the best chapters are still being written.
We consider ourselves a great community of like-minded insurance professionals, fostering strong connections worldwide. What, in your opinion, makes UnisonSteadfast unique and stand out from its competitors?
It’s our spirit. We’re not just a network; we’re a family of fiercely independent professionals who have each other’s backs across borders and time zones. That trust is rare — and it’s our greatest strength.
What does UnisonSteadfast’s 20th anniversary mean to you personally and professionally?
It’s a milestone that brings a smile to my face and a little mist to my eyes. Personally, it’s a proud reflection of what passion and perseverance can achieve. Professionally, it’s a testament to our relevance and resilience in a changing world.
How has the independent broker landscape evolved, and how has UnisonSteadfast adapted to these changes?
The landscape has become more consolidated and digitized. We’ve adapted by strengthening our partnerships, expanding our services, and staying true to our mission — supporting the independent voice in a sea of giants.
The joint venture with Steadfast Group was a major step. What motivated this partnership, and how has it benefited UnisonSteadfast and its members?
It was about synergy — we shared values and complementary strengths. Together, we gained access to a broader network, enhanced capabilities, and even more value for our members. Win-win all around.
How have UnisonSteadfast’s strategic partnerships with major insurers and suppliers strengthened the network? Are there plans for further strategic alliances or expansions in the near future?
They’ve allowed us to negotiate better terms, expand our offerings, and provide our members with more tools to thrive. And yes — our eyes are always open for the right opportunities to grow and evolve.
With increasing digitalization and market consolidation, how can independent brokers stay competitive, and how is UnisonSteadfast supporting them?
By staying agile, leveraging collective strength, and embracing smart tech. We support our members with tools, training, and connections that help them compete without compromising independence.
What impact do you see AI and automation having on the industry, and how is UnisonSteadfast leveraging technology to stay ahead?
AI is a game-changer — not a threat, but a tool. We’re investing in platforms and solutions that free up time, reduce friction, and enhance client service, while always keeping the human touch front and center.
What role will UnisonSteadfast play in shaping the future of global brokerage networks?
A leading role, I’d say! We’re a bridge between tradition and transformation, bringing together people, partners, and platforms to shape a network that thrives in the future — not just survives it.
As leadership transitions, what aspects of the company’s culture and strategy should be preserved?
Our entrepreneurial spirit, our deep sense of trust, and our unwavering support for the independent broker. These are our core values.
In your opinion, what IDC was the most special one so far?
That’s a tough one! We had so many unique venues but I’d say the Istanbul IDC had something magical — a perfect mix of historic backdrop, energizing discussions, and a real sense of momentum.
What was your favorite IDC moment and why?
Dancing on stage with brokers from five continents and singing the Unison anthem — where else does business meet global friendship quite like that? I think we still have the footage on video.
If you could choose a future destination, which one would it be and why?
Cape Town! Incredible culture, breathtaking views, and a gateway to expanding our African connections. Plus, I’ve heard the wine isn’t bad either!
